Safety

We are dedicated not only to making the construction process enjoyable and beneficial, but to ensuring safe and injury free working environments for our associates, subcontractors and clients. We view risk management and the health and safety of each associate and subcontractor as the most important and vital to our operations.

Safety Program Objectives:

ARCO strives to eliminate accidents and injuries to our associates and subcontractors’ associates and avoid property damage. In 2015, our Workers Compensation Experience Modification Rating was .62. This is considerably below the National average of 1.00 for general contractors (SIC codes 1541, 1542).

Safety Program Key Elements:

  • ARCO conducts Weekly Safety Tool Box Talks for all ARCO and subcontractor field personnel.
  • Weekly Safety Inspections are documented by the Jobsite Superintendent using an 80-point checklist.
  • Pre-job meetings are held with key subcontractors to plan upcoming work safety.
  • A DVD introduction to ARCO’s Safety Program is required for all ARCO associates and subcontractors.
  • Our Safety Handbook is distributed to all ARCO and subcontractor personnel.
  • All ARCO Project Managers and Superintendents are trained in first aid / CPR and OSHA Construction 10-hour Safety courses.
  • ARCO utilizes and works with our insurance broker (Lockton) and carrier (Old Republic Construction Program Group, Inc.) Risk Engineering and Safety Loss Control Consultant Teams to ensure complete compliance and safe practices at our working environments. By utilizing the professional associates from these groups we ensure all new regulations are reviewed and implemented, our training stays refreshed and current, and our health and safety policy is consistently reviewed and enhanced.
  • ARCO constructs an extensive site specific safety plan (SSSP) and emergency response plan for our projects. The SSSP addresses key issues during construction operations including fall protection, excavation cave-in protection, emergency response procedures, the new federal OSHA crane standard, silica protection, and electrical safety just to name a few.
